Corfu Old Town
Some of the highlights of the town include the Old and New Fortresses and Spianada Square where still cricket games take place, the Liston and the great tower of St. Spyridon, who is the patron saint of Corfu. Do not forget to visit the Palace of St. Michael and St. George, which nowadays houses the Museum of Asian Art and the Municipal Gallery of Corfu. Other museums worth visiting include the Museum of Banknotes, the Corfu Reading Society, and the Museum of Music all hosting unique exhibits of the Eptanisian History. An exceptional sight is also the Garitsa Bay with its stunning views and beautiful green Grove, wherein you can also find the Ionian Academy, the first university of Greece, as well as the new Archaeological Museum of Corfu. Of course, two of the most amazing things to do within Corfu Town are wandering through the small graphical alleyways, the so-called “kadounia,” and browsing in gift and souvenir shops.
